Immigration*

I was married to a U.S. citizen who took advantage of me after I came to the country. I had nowhere to go or anyone to help me. I also had no money. After explaining to the attorney my story, the attorney set me up on special plan so she could represent me. Shortly after, my I-360 (VAWA petition) was approved, I received my work permit, and I now am waiting for my green card. If it was not for the caring attorney, I would have already had to leave the United States.

I applied for adjustment of status on my own with my U.S. citizen wife. After my application was denied, I appealed the decision. My appeal was also denied. I then visited with the attorney about my case who explained what needed to be done, and she helped me immediately file a new adjustment of status application before I was put into deportation proceedings. My application was accepted and I received my permanent resident card less than four months of the application made by my attorney. I was nervous about reapplying but the attorney took care of it for me and made the process as seamless as possible. I could not thank her enough.

My fiancé hired an attorney to get me an immigration bond. Then I received some bad information from my family and signed voluntary departure papers. The attorney wouldn't give up on me even when I told her to. She came four times to talk to me, even on a Sunday. She was able to get the papers I signed retracted. I did not even have to pay the bond and was let out on my own recognizance. Now I can take care of my four children and apply for cancellation of removal. I can't believe she cared enough to help me even though I was not thinking right. Her work has helped me stay in the United States with my family right now. She has saved my family.

Family Law & Divorce*

A lady that I knew obtained a guardianship over my daughter and took her away from me. I fought for a long time to get my daughter back, but the lady had an attorney and I couldn't afford one. Then I heard about an attorney who would work with me. She was able to get my daughter back quickly. I didn't even understand that I had gotten her back when the Judge announced it in the courtroom. I just cried when my attorney told me in the hall that it was all over. I cannot thank her enough.

The Department of Human Services had my children. My attorney never gave up on me and pushed me to keep fighting, even when I was ready to quit. I now have all of my children back and we are doing great! I am so thankful she encouraged me to not give up.

My daughter's mother kept dragging me into court and it felt like my attorney at the time wasn't doing anything. I just wanted to see my daughter. I heard about this other attorney from a friend. He said that she always took care of his stuff and that she was good and always got the job done. She handled my case quickly and I see my daughter regularly. My daughter's mother keeps starting new things in court and my attorney keeps beating it. When my ex's new boyfriend and his friends had several different charges brought against me, my attorney had two of the cases dismissed and won the third at jury trial. The jury was only out a few minutes before they found me not guilty. I know that my attorney cares and that I can always count on her.

Criminal Law

We were facing serious felony charges. Our attorney went above and beyond. She looked into the details of the charges. The judge had never even seen the charge tried in court before. Our attorney proved to the prosecutor that he could not file the felony charges against us because our crime did not fit within the law. The prosecutor even stated on the record that the attorney was right and he was wrong in filing the charges that way. The attorney really had our best interest in mind.

The prosecutor had filed felony charges against me because of an old case. My attorney asked the prosecutor to dismiss the charges and re-file the charges as a misdemeanor because there is some law about old charges expiring after 10 years. My old charges only expired 2 months before the new ones. Another attorney saw this and told me that other attorneys would not have caught it. I really trusted her judgment and would recommend her to others.

I was charged with a felony with two counts. My attorney spoke to the prosecutor at the preliminary hearing. That day the charges were reduced to one misdemeanor count. I didn't want to do any jail time, but my attorney insisted that I would probably get worse if I took it to trial. I gave her a hard time, but eventually accepted the plea bargain. I went to jail for 45 days. When I was in there, I met a lot of guys who were charged for the same thing and had received at least a six month a more sentence. I learned my lesson and am glad I listened to my attorney.

Contract Law

I was wrongfully charged with a debt that one of my family members was supposed to pay. The debt was for $17,000. The company ended up winning a judgment against me for the $17,000 plus interest, and attorney fees. My attorney had made a cross-claim against my family member saying that she was responsible for the debt and my case against her was set for trial. A day before trial, my attorney was able to reach a settlement with my family member in which the family member agreed to pay the full amount of the debt, interest, attorney fees, and money damages to me for my suffering for having to deal with the case for three years. I was also released from the judgment and my name was cleared. I am happy to know that the attorney did not give up and let me just pay the judgment as I had initially wanted to do. Now my name is cleared and the family member is rightfully paying the debt as she should.
